About Selene Boyd, LCSW
I’m here to help you discover the joy in your life.
I’m a New Jersey-based therapist (born and raised in California) who specializes in working with teens and young adults, as well as their parents.
Change isn’t easy (even when it’s “good”).
You're here because you want to work with someone who believes in you.
My approach is rooted in empathy and respect, focusing on your individual experiences and needs. If you’re dealing with anxiety, we’ll work together to identify and address the triggers and patterns affecting your daily life, helping you build practical tools for managing stress and finding calm. For those facing depression, my goal is to provide a supportive environment where you can explore your feelings and develop strategies for reconnecting with your sense of purpose and joy.
If ADHD is part of your journey, I offer strategies to help you harness your strengths while managing the challenges. We’ll collaborate on creating structures and routines that work for you, and find ways to turn potential obstacles into opportunities for growth. For those navigating life transitions—be it entering the workforce, starting college, or any other significant change—I will help you build resilience and adapt with a sense of stability and hope.
How I work:
At the core of my approach to therapy is a belief that you are the expert on your own life.
No one knows you better than you. Together we can deepen that understanding and identify what areas you want to grow or change. I will offer tools and support, but ultimately YOU are the person creating change.
Therapy with me is…
-
Understanding is the cornerstone of a successful therapeutic relationship. Feeling understood makes you more likely to open up, engage fully in the therapeutic process, and make meaningful progress. I commit to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where your perspectives are valued, fostering a partnership built on trust and mutual respect. This foundation of understanding is essential for effective therapy and lasting positive change.
-
Patience is a vital component of a successful therapeutic relationship, allowing for genuine progress and meaningful change. Healing and personal growth are often gradual processes, and developing new insights or coping strategies takes time. In therapy, patience means giving yourself and the process the grace to unfold at a natural pace, without rushing or self-judgment. It’s about trusting that you're moving toward greater understanding and improvement with each step, no matter how small. My role is to support you through this journey with patience and encouragement, ensuring that every stride, big or small, is valued and built upon.
-
By actively engaging in therapy and working on the goals and exercises discussed in sessions, you create momentum toward meaningful change. Productivity in therapy means being proactive, setting realistic goals, and consistently applying new skills to real-life situations. It’s about making the most of our time together, ensuring that each session contributes to your growth and progress. By staying engaged and committed, you enhance the effectiveness of therapy and move closer to the positive outcomes you’re seeking.
